Upgrading or installing new building management systems would help the NHS save £130m a year

Upgrading outdated energy control systems or installing new building management systems across its range of facilities would help the NHS save £130m a year on its energy bills – enough to pay for 4,000 extra nurses, a recent research report from British Gas owner Centrica has been able to reveal.

The NHS currently spends at least £500m on energy every year, but a number of NHS Trusts have trialled a range of enegry-saving measures in recent years, with the general feedback from such pilot projects being broadly positive – projects have led to reduced bills and an attractive return on investment.

Large energy users such as hospitals can once again secure a highly attractive return on investment from a range of energy saving systems, such as demand response services, energy efficiency upgrades, onsite renewables, and energy storage units.

“Our NHS is an incredible healthcare system and a source of national pride – but it’s also under intense pressure to reduce costs while delivering enhanced services. Energy has a huge role to play in that,” commented Jorge Pikunic, managing director at Centrica Business Solutions, the arm of Centrica which conducted the research.

“Energy technology has come a long way in the past few decades and the systems used by most hospitals across Britain can benefit from the latest energy efficient solutions and equipment. A new approach to energy could save the NHS £130m per year – and that’s just a conservative estimate. The savings could be double this,” he added.

HeatingSave – the perfect solution for achieving significant energy savings across the NHS

Advanced BMS (Building Management System) solutions represent one of the top energy efficiency measures organizations of any scope and size can turn to, given the fact that they enable a superior level of control over the heating system and its extensive optimization, thus leading to lower overall consumption levels.

And this is exactly where the HeatingSave system might prove its worth, since our solution allows customers to achieve immediately savings of up to 30%+ on their energy bills. This is achieved by optimizing the energy consumption levels within any building with the help of an advanced heat-loss algorithm that creates a specific profile for any building and based on that, switches heating on later if its warm and off earlier if its cold.

It also automatically adjusts your boiler depending on how warm it is outside – save up to another 10%.

Furthermore, the system also offers an advanced automatic occupancy detection system that allows the temperature to reduce to a background when areas are not used and quickly brought up to temperature when they are being used.
