Progress in deploying clean energy technologies still falling short of requirements, IEA suggests

Although there have been positive developments on some energy technologies, in particular renewable energy, progress is still slow in deploying new technologies compared to what is actually required, the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s annual report, Energy Technology Perspectives 2016, has been able to suggest.

The report noted: “The realisation that swift action is needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution from fossil-based generation has highlighted again the potential of nuclear power to help meet these challenges. This awareness has yet to be translated into policy support for long-term operation of the existing fleet to prevent early closures of safe, reliable low-carbon baseload power plants, and facilitate construction of new units.”

“A low fossil fuel price outlook poses both unique opportunities and threats for low-carbon technology deployment,” the IEA suggests. “While low fossil fuel prices might slow down clean energy technology deployment, they also present opportunities to better align policies with decarbonization targets, for instance, by accelerating the roll-out of carbon pricing mechanisms and dismantling costly fossil fuel subsidy programs.”

Building Energy Management Systems – achieving energy savings and cutting emissions

The best solution for reducing and thoroughly managing energy bills is the implementation of a solid and reliable Building Energy Management system.

Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.
