Ofgem posts video in a bid to help consumers understand energy reforms
As energy market reforms are already in effect and changes to energy tariffs are set to come into force in April, energy market regulator Ofgem has decided that this is the right time to clarify the changes for all consumers.
As a result, Ofgem put together a video that explains in detail step-by-step changes such as reduction in the number of tariffs and the new rules on honesty and transparency which suppliers must follow so customers are treated fairly.
In order to make sure that they get the best possible deal at any given moment, Ofgem urges consumers to make sure they have all the information they need at hand (annual consumption, recent bills, etc.) before starting to shop around for the best possible deal.
Ofgem CEO Andrew Wright said: “Consumers are already benefiting from our reforms to make the market simpler, clearer and fairer and this video brings to life just how these changes can help bill payers across Great Britain.
“Switching rates at the end of 2013 were at the highest ever. However, we want all energy customers to understand that it is getting much easier to get a better deal on energy bills. This is important as people who have never switched can save up to £200, just by switching supplier.”
While switching suppliers is certainly a legitimate method of reducing one’s energy bills, the truth of the matter is that this is only temporary. In fact, optimizing energy consumption across any household is a much better approach, and this is specifically where HeatingSave could put its market-leading experience to very good use.
The HeatingSave Building Energy Management System helps customers save more than 30% on their bills by optimizing any heating system’s overall functionality. This is done by taking into account a variety of factors, such as internal and external temperatures, occupancy, time of the year, the particular characteristics of installed boilers, etc. All of the data is used in order to determine the best heating patterns for the various heating zones within any building, using our proprietary heat-loss algorithm.
The end result is that users still get a very good level of comfort, while in the same time saving energy and money in the process.
