Local Bath charity launches new Winter Warmth campaign to support the elderly
A Bath local charity has launched a new campaign aimed at supporting older people throughout the winter, including giving them advice on keeping warm and choosing the best energy deals, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
The organization, Age UK B&NES, is offering support to older people as part of its Winter Warmth campaign, a free service that can provide help with shopping, clearing snow/ice, dog walking, advice on keeping warm, or claiming benefits.
Through its Winter Warmth service, Age UK B&NES is highlighting the facts that, in order to protect their health, older people should keep living room at 70 degrees F (21ºc), keep the bedroom at 65 degrees F (18ºc), and also keep the bedroom window closed at night when the weather is cold.
The charity delivers an extensive range of free services, including practical support such as shopping, walking the dog, preparing hot meals, home visits, clearing snow, benefits checks to ensure people are receiving all the help they can with their heating bills, including the Warm Home Discount of £140 which some people may be eligible for and also ensuring people are on the best fuel tariff possible and helping them to switch to a better deal.
Other services include Distribution of the free Winter Wrapped Up guide to older people, GP surgeries, pharmacies and older people’s groups across the county and signposting and support accessing grants for energy-saving home improvements of up to £6,000 via Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Energy at Home scheme.
Representatives from the local charity are also visiting older people’s groups to talk about keeping warm and tackling fuel poverty.
