Irish government to invest €130million (£94.9m) to make homes more energy efficient

Ireland has revealed plans to invest €130million (£94.9m) in making homes more energy efficient and boost renewable energy sources according to a news report.

Minister of Energy, Alex White, said that around 300,000 households have so far benefited from the government’s energy efficiency upgrades which are expected to reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuel imports by €6 billion (£4.38bn) per year.

The government’s loan will focus on helping people tackle fuel poverty.und measures including heat incentive schemes to improve energy efficiency and incentives to boost the take-up of electric vehicles.

Mr White said: “Improving the energy efficiency of our homes is also the single most effective way to alleviate energy poverty. Evidence from the Warmer Homes Scheme, which has so far upgraded some 120,000 homes – demonstrates that you can halve a household’s fuel bills by reducing the amount of energy we waste.”
