Free energy efficiency improvements available for Bristol residents

Energy efficiency measures designed to help home owners save energy and money are available for free to Bristol residents, should they decide to actually go forward and apply to join the scheme being rolled out by British Gas and the Government.

Bristol households are urged to take a closer look at the scheme, simply because most of them might believe that their household is not eligible. In fact, recent research by British Gas has uncovered that only one in seven people in Bristol believe their home qualifies for free insulation, despite it being available to 90 per cent of homes that need it.

Most people assume energy efficiency improvements are only available to low income households or those on benefits. However, in reality, ninety per cent of homes that require work will qualify for the free of charge improvements under the British Gas roll-out.

The study also suggested that renters may also miss out on getting the improvements their home is entitled to, as just under a third of people surveyed (32 per cent) didn’t know rented properties are also eligible. Almost three quarters (71%) of people in Bristol would sign up for help if they could see the result of free insulation installed in other homes in the local area.

Many people don’t realise what a difference installing energy efficiency measures can make to their energy consumption and bank account, but more than two thirds of people (67 per cent) would be likely to apply for help if they thought their home was eligible, the survey also revealed.
