Complaints regarding energy companies double over the first six months of 2014
More than 22,671 complaints regarding the energy suppliers’ activity were recorded during the first six months of 2014, double the number recorded last year, data obtained from the Energy Ombudsman suggests.
Complaints made to the ombudsman about energy firms also reached a record for a single month, with 4,124 made in June, and close to 84% of the total number were related to billing.
A Department of Energy and Climate Change spokesman said: “Energy companies need to realise that people will not tolerate poor service and are switching suppliers in unprecedented numbers, particularly to small suppliers whose numbers have nearly trebled since 2010.”
