One of the UK’s largest real-estate companies has managed to cut its commercial tenants’ energy costs by £6.9 million over the last five years by implementing a variety of smart energy monitoring and efficiency measures.
British Land manages in excess of 25 million sq ft of retail space across 66 retail parks, 85 superstores, 15 shopping centres, 12 department stores and 77 leisure sites. The company announced that it successfully reduced carbon emissions by 37,000 tonnes across its portfolio since 2009 and that it’s also on its way to “zero waste” next year, diverting 93% away from landfill.
Finance Director Lucinda Bell said: “It is in keeping with our business ethos and approach that the person responsible for the financial performance of company operations is also responsible for ensuring that this performance is achieved through responsible management of social, environmental and ethical issues.”
The company also completed Energy Performance Certificate assessments across the entire portfolio, identifying opportunities for further energy reductions.
One of the top energy reduction solutions any company is likely to consider is represented by the implementation of an advanced BEMS (Building Energy Management System) that enables a superior level of control over the heating system and its extensive optimization, thus leading to lower overall consumption levels.
And this is exactly where the HeatingSave system might prove its worth, since our solution allows customers to achieve immediately savings of up to 30%+ on their energy bills. This is achieved by optimizing the energy consumption levels within any building with the help of an advanced heat-loss algorithm that creates a specific profile for any building and based on that, switches heating on later if its warm and off earlier if its cold.
