Energy efficiency and fuel savings can be achieved using the right technology

Energy efficiency technology and building energy management systems are becoming an integral part of our lives and will be used to help home owners and tenants save on heating and energy bills, a recent survey has been able to reveal.

The poll carried out by housebuilder Barratt Homes found that 50 per cent of people in the South West believe that new technology and better controls for their heating would save them money on their energy bills with the majority feeling confident they could control their heating from a smart phone.

The survey also found that the idea of using new technology was more popular among younger people with those aged 18-34 years old the keenest to use new technology.

Barratt Homes sales director Andrea Pilgrim reinforced the findings and said that people living in a brand new home can save up to 55 per cent on their heating bills compared with older homes.

“New homes typically have energy saving features such as the latest insulation, high levels of airtightness and new double glazing,” she said. “We also use new highly efficient boilers and modern low heat loss cylinders which keep water hotter for longer. People can see how much they could be saving in a new build home by having an energy calculator online.”

HeatingSave – helping home owners save energy and money

Domestic and non-domestic customers alike can take advantage of the impressive level of energy efficiency enabled by the HeatingSave Building Energy Management System, which allows user to save 20 to 30 percent on their gas and electricity bills by optimizing consumption levels across any building, depending on its specific heat-loss profile.

Plus, the system also includes automatic occupancy detection features, allowing the temperature to be reduced to a background when areas are not used and quickly brought up to temperature when they are being used.

It’s also very important to mention that HeatingSave can take an automatic decision on whether to use electricity or gas for heating during summer, and also enables users to set a night setback temperature, reducing the night heating by a few degrees to still keep 24/7 operations warm whilst saving energy and money.
