DECC pledges extensive support for business energy efficiency in new policy
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has pledged extensive support for business energy efficiency within its new plan from 2015 to 2020.
Within their 5-year plan, the DECC argues that, although the energy intensity of the UK economy has fallen by 24% since 2004, there remains significant untapped potential for energy saving in the business sector and that realising this potential will improve businesses’ productivity and will also support growth.
The government argues that it has been actively considering where and how to support small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), building on the successful SME Guide to Energy Efficiency and are currently how further support can be provided to SMEs on energy efficiency.
Moreover, since the public sector is also a major energy consumer, spending around £4bn each year, the government will also invest a further £295m in public sector energy efficiency over 5 years to cut energy costs, save carbon and free up resources for other priorities.
