Close to 60% of companies affected by ESOS are not prepared for it, survey reveals

Close to 60% of the companies who will be liable to take part in the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) have not started work on the required assessment, data from the third annual Energy Management report drawn up by edie.net has been able to reveal.

The ESOS scheme is providing a significant opportunity for UK businesses to employ best practice techniques in their energy monitoring and consumption.

Under ESOS provisions, companies will have to be fully compliant with the scheme’s requirements by December 2015, by in order to do so, they’d need at least one year’s worth of accurate energy consumption measurements.

However, although 82% of qualifying businesses are aware of ESOS, just 39% have started work on securing a lead assessor.

Those surveyed identified a number of barriers that continue to hinder their adoption of energy efficiency measures. 62% of respondents identified funding as the biggest barrier, while 32% said they had trouble selecting the right technology/programmes. In addition, two thirds of those surveyed said that they are looking at installing an energy-efficient lighting system in 2015.
